Hike through the Höllental to the Zugspitze
This hike is one of the most beautiful hikes on the Zugspitze. But also one of the most challenging. It starts in Hammbersbach and begins leisurely. First, it leads through the spectacular Höllentalklamm gorge to the Höllentalangerhütte. Then, the climb becomes steeper. You reach the Höllental via ferrata. The famous ladder and the Stangensteig (pole climb) require full concentration. A via ferrata set with a rockfall helmet is essential.

Crampons are recommended for crossing the glacier. The glacier's edge crevasse can pose challenges, especially in summer. It requires some climbing. More or less, depending on the conditions.
Once you've overcome that, you continue climbing. Through the Höllental via ferrata. All the way to the summit cross of the Zugspitze. You've made it. Now it's time to enjoy the breathtaking view. And take in the panoramic views.
The main difficulty of the hike through the Höllental Valley lies not in its length, but in its altitude. The one-way route is only eleven kilometers. However, it has a climb of 2.200 meters. It's classified as Category C, which is demanding. Requirements include surefootedness and fitness. Fitness for an ascent of eight to ten hours. Pure walking time, without breaks.
