HIKING HIGHLIGHTS
It's impressive what there is to experience in Garmisch-Partenkirchen. The diversity is fascinating. There are also some real highlights waiting for you! In the truest sense of the word. Germany's highest mountain? It's right here.
Of course, you can climb the Zugspitze on foot. But it's more comfortable to take the train. Up there, you can hike directly on the glacier plateau. This glacier hike is suitable for everyone. Eternal ice beneath your feet, over 300 peaks before your eyes. Simply breathtaking! And not just because of the thin air at almost 3.000 meters.
Not frozen solid, but no less impressive: the wild waters of the Höllental and Partnach Gorges. Impressive gorges with bizarre rock formations. Fascinating natural monuments, created over millennia by roaring water. A truly impressive experience!
Nature isn't behind the royal palace on Schachen, but rather the work of eccentric human hands. The legendary King Ludwig II immortalized himself here, with his little castle high up in the mountains. It's styled like a Swiss chalet on the outside. Inside, oriental splendor amidst the Bavarian mountains: The Turkish Hall – a dream! Climbing the Jubiläumsgrat – that's also the way up there, by the way.
