STORIES FROM STAUDACHERHOF
The Hotel Garmisch and RECUP
In 2023, it will be mandatory. The use of reusable tableware in the catering and hotel industry. Staudacherhof is already a pioneer in environmentally friendly alternatives in the to-go business. Reusable solutions are already being used in the Hotel Garmisch and the Gorge House And it has been in use for two years. Peter Staudacher, managing director of the Staudacherhof, gave an interview about the deposit system he has been using ever since. RECOVERA highly integrated deposit system that started with reusable coffee cups and now even offers reusable bowls, so-called REBOWLS. Everything for takeaway. In this blog post, you'll learn more about the collaboration between RECUP and the Hotel Garmisch.
The topic of sustainability is becoming increasingly important these days. It's no longer a trend. It's a reality. This also applies to the hotel and tourism industries. More and more hoteliers are choosing to become more sustainable. How did you, as one of the first hoteliers, come up with such a deposit system? And is it being well-received by guests?
Mr. Staudacher, how did you become aware of the sustainable RECUP deposit system? And why did you want to integrate this product into your restaurant? Even though you hardly offer takeout at your hotel in Garmisch?
Peter Staudacher: “It all actually started 15 years ago. When the topic Sustainability was still of little importance in the hotel industry. I've always looked for ways to avoid waste and long transport routes. In addition to my inner drive, my children have also started to constantly ask me, "What are you doing for the environment, Dad?" And that's exactly what it's about: We have to leave a "functioning" Earth for future generations. And not leave them alone with all the problems.
Two years ago, I took over the KLAMMHAUS, a pub in the middle of the beautiful nature reserve on the Partnach GorgeAnd I had to watch as the popular tourist destination became littered with massive amounts of trash and disposable packaging every day. At that time, my desire to avoid all that waste came to the fore again. It became clear to me: I had to change something! Then I started looking. I looked for a reusable solution. And I found it. With RECUP. After making that quick decision, I'm happy every day. Happy about the collaboration with RECUP. And the support of my colleagues in the area. Because more and more of them are using RECUP. And so the network is getting bigger and stronger. Above all, our guests benefit from it. They can use RECUP effortlessly."
Are your guests accepting the deposit system?
Peter Staudacher: "The response has been consistently positive. You can even feel a significant upswing. And guests are increasingly accepting the system. Initially, our foreign guests still needed a lot of explanation. But that has subsided. More and more people are using RECUP. Especially due to one reason: It's possible to drop off cups and bowls at Munich Central Station. It's straightforward and easy. Thanks to RECUP's rapidly growing network, it's even expanding beyond the borders of major cities."
Where do you use the RECUP cups and bowls in your Garmisch hotel?
Peter Staudacher: "We offer our departing guests the option of taking their breakfast or a packed lunch for their journey home. Naturally, this is sustainably packed in reusable RECUP tableware. Or the popular coffee to go for the journey home or an excursion, whether to the mountains or a day trip. This is a tangible added value for our guests. Furthermore, many of the companies we host even have sustainability guidelines. Therefore, it is a prerequisite to have an ecological offering in the hotel. The great advantage of RECUP is that you can return the bowls and cups almost anywhere. And you can avoid single-use waste thanks to the dense network. This makes a valuable contribution to preserving the environment."
Come to the Staudacherhof or the KLAMMHAUS and make your contribution to protecting nature and preserving the environment. The Hotel Garmisch looks forward to welcoming you!
