Highlight Zugspitze

Adventure and breathtaking views

For many, it's the number one attraction in Garmisch-Partenkirchen. A bucket list item for locals and travelers alike. Germany's highest mountain. And the highest peak in the Wetterstein Mountains. At 1 meters above sea level, the Zugspitze!

The Zugspitze is as much a part of the region's landscape as beer is of Bavaria. It's almost always in view here – whether cycling, hiking, or enjoying afternoon coffee on the Staudacherhof terrace.

The "Top of Germany" is not only home to three glaciers, but also offers visitors a unique view of the Alpine peaks of neighboring Austria, Switzerland, and Italy. This panorama is one you won't soon forget! Luckily, it's only a stone's throw from the Staudacherhof to the Zugspitze train station.

Book your guided tour as a group or private tour. Secure your spot early. Or enjoy the hike exclusively. Booking is done via the Alpine School Garmisch. We are happy to advise you!

The trip to the Zugspitze

The starting point is the Zugspitze train station in Garmisch-Partenkirchen. From there, the cogwheel train takes you via Hammersbach, Grainau, and Eibsee up to the Zugspitzplatt plateau. There, you can enjoy your first high-alpine glimpses before taking the glacier cable car the final few meters to the viewing platform. The return journey to the valley takes you on the new Zugspitze cable car, which takes you to the train station at Eibsee. The incredible view of the lake is, of course, included! Once you arrive at Eibsee, the cogwheel train awaits to transport Zugspitze visitors back to Grainau, Hammersbach, and Garmisch-Partenkirchen. Alternatively, you can also take the Eibsee bus.
